What is Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?
TCM is a field of comprehensive healthcare that includes acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, fire cupping, tui na (Chinese medical massage), gua sha (scraping the skin with a flat jade stone) and moxibustion (the burning of mugwort leaf over specific acupuncture points). You can find more detailed descriptions of each of the treatment methods that Dr. Baert uses in the Treatment Methods menu.

Though TCM is considered alternative medicine in Canada, it is practiced on a scale in China that most Westerners cannot imagine. This is partly due to the vast size of the population of China, but also because it is considered an important part of their healthcare system. Western medicine and TCM is often practiced together in China, and this is referred to as Integrated Medicine (IM). Even a small hospital in China can dwarf our largest, and some that are practicing only TCM are doing so on a very large scale indeed.
